Shanae Cole was born in Long Island, New York and raised in Queens. She is the oldest grandchild of Neighborhood Bakery’s co-owners Benjamin and Beatrice Sabir. Shanae graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Hampton University in Hampton Virginia. Immediately after, she attended Baruch College where she completed her Master of Science degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
Shanae began working for her grandparents at a very young age. Her grandmother, also a caterer began training her on the ins and outs of the family businesses since she was small enough to sleep comfortably in bread crates. Shanae can vividly recall a time where she spent sleepless nights prepping for a catered event after riding passenger in delivery truck all day, learning the routes. “This is just part of the business” is how she would effortlessly describe it.
As an employee of Neighborhood Bakery, Shanae leads strategic business development initiatives. She strives to devise, develop and deliver comprehensive strategic and tactical plans for business development. As Neighborhood Bakery has been around for over 40 years, Shanae focuses on the “NEW” Neighborhood and a vision of expanding its roots nationwide.
Simultaneously, she works as a Data Analyst for Brooklyn Public Library. She started at the library only as an intern for the Strategic Planning department before being offered a full time position in IT. Her technical background and strategic planning experience has put her in an invaluable position, fostering data driven and innovative ideas for Neighborhood’s businesses.
It’s a family affair and as such it’s important for the company and its staff to represent the importance of their family values. Shanae is fully invested in Neighborhood Bakery’s principle of making positive changes in people’s lives one cake or pie at a time. “My grandfather is one of the hardest working men I know. Blessed with his work ethic, and the partnership of my cousin Gregory, I have no doubt I have the ability to turn Neighborhood Bakery into the empire it was destined to be.”
